Wake me when it's 9:50

Yes, the TV is on, but I'm not really watching the filler. What I know is that at 9:39, Lee is safe and the other four are awaiting their fate. Aaron needs to go. Casey will probably go. Crystal would probably be happy getting eliminated in the next two or three weeks.

I miss Siobhán.

In other news, my hunter is still level 64, but I'm over halfway to level 65 and I'm starting the Volume 3 book quests. Never mind that I haven't finished the Volume 1 and Volume 2 book quests . . .

As I mentioned before, Lee was declared safe, but when they called him to the stage, I was sure they were going to George someone, only with 5 singers instead of the usual 7.

Christina Hendricks. Yummy.

I read an interesting article that says Idol is no longer about finding a pop star but rather finding a way to market the singers as they are.

So who's up for Iron Man 2 at midnight tomorrow?

Mrs. High Lord is on the prowl for a new car. She's got a 2004 Honda CR-V that has 62K miles on it that's paid off. She'd like something that has four/all-wheel drive (for the 10 days a year when we'd need more than front wheel drive) or she'd like a hybrid (for the gas mileage). Her current dream car is the Honda Accord Crosstour 4WD, but it's at a higher price than she wants to pay.

I'd like a Prius or Insight, because I need some karmic offset to the horrendous gas mileage my car gets. We have occasion to transport kids on a reasonably regular basis, so she has ruled out a coupe or another sports car. Plus there are probably 15 days a year when we need to move a lot of stuff, which may include lumber, furniture and/or a table saw. Plus, when we go on a road trip, it would be nice to have something that is comfortable for an extended period of time (which my car is not).

We don't need a full-size SUV and I'd even be willing to consider something like a Sienna or Odyssey because they have a quieter ride and get better gas mileage.

I've got the local Toyota dealer calling me, but if anyone has another recommendation, let me know.

Back on Idol, Seacrest just put Crystal and Casey in one group, Mike and Aaron in the other and tried to get Lee to bite on the Georging trick. Luckily, he passed. I hate it when they pull that crap.

Mike and Aaron are the bottom 2, which is a little surprising. I thought for sure that Mike's elimination/save would have gotten him for votes, but maybe he's peaked. Aaron is the weakest singer/performer left and deserves to get whacked.

Seacrest is rushing because they're almost out of time.

Aaron gets whacked without much false suspense. Despite all of my bashing of him and his style, he didn't crack like other teenagers, which is a credit to his stage presence and resilience. I just think he would have done better if he'd waited (been prohibited from auditioning for) about two more years.

That leaves us with Casey, Crystal, Lee and Mike as our Top 4, which brings some drama to the finale.

Will Crystal tank so she isn't saddled with the creative stifling that comes with being the American Idol? Will Mike dare to venture out of the box Kara has stuck him in? After being exposed as an average vocalist, can Casey get some momentum back? Does Lee really deserve to have come this far or is he this season's Jasmine Trias?

I guess we'll find out over the next couple of weeks.

High Lord. Out.

You can't go wrong with an Odyssey. I have an '08 EX model. I have had it 2 yrs 2 months - nothing wrong except for the current recall on brakes. It gets very good gas mileage, is good for hauling large items in the back with seats folded down, and handles 8 people max, 6 comfortable. I put the trailer hitch package on it, & can haul my pop-up easily. Handling is great, inside is very nice, love the sound system. Best car I've ever had (been driving 40 years). Honda gives you better choices for the money on the models available than Toyota does on the Sienna.

In about a year, we will replace my wife's Camry, probably with a Honda hybrid. I am sold on Honda.

As to AI, I am sick of how staged everything is, down to every judge's comments. I only watch it after I have taped it. It definitly has 'jumped the shark'.

Idol: cheered that Aaron was called. Not a mean cheer, but a thankful one so the Top 4 were the best top4 possible without Siobhan. I think next week will be a disaster too, movie songs? yikes.

cars: I would have to concur, the minivan is extremely versatile for what you've described, any with the fold into the floor rear seat would be nice. I think the Chrysler mid seats even fold into the floor as well.

There's nothing as easy to ingress/egress as a 4 door minivan for large groups, especially kids, and the odyssey is definitely one to consider.

Ford actually makes probably the most hybrid hybrids. don't get confused by the word, it doesn't really mean the vehicle is a "hybrid" in the sense you think it is. Some vehicles use braking to charge a system that provides power at a stop light, and shuts off the motor while stopped, then immediately restarts as you pull away again. Not very Hybrid. Ford's Escape, and I think the Fusion, use what I consider a real hybrid engine. The Escape actually gets better city (34) than highway (31) because it has an electric engine that works up to 40 or 45 mph before the gas engine is needed. I think the Fusion uses the same engine. If you wanted a Hybrid for city hopping, look at those.

While it doesn't fit your criteria, a car that excels for it's size is the Chevy Malibu. They have models that top 32 mph highway, pretty amazing for the size of car, and NOT being a hybrid, though they do have a hybrid version as well. I'd take a Malibu over a Camry or Accord, but a lot of that is personal taste.

Something you should ask about any vehicle you consider: Is the engine an interference or non-interference design?? What does this mean? If the timing belt breaks (most have to be replaced at either 60k or 90k miles), will the engine destroy itself or be undamaged. Interference engines will tear themselves up. non-interference will not. (when a timing belt breaks, the valves stop where they are, some will be open, the pistons continue moving, and will slam into the stuck valves destroying half the motor in an interference design). Most Japanese engines are interference designs.

There is no excuse (other than profits) for not designing engines as non-interference these days. So as a consumer, the only way to voice your displeasure at such practices is when you find a car you like, but it has an interference motor, thank the sales person and tell them, "Had this used a non-interference engine, I'd be driving it off the lot today. Sorry for wasting your time" and walk away :)

hey, on my way to work, I saw a car/truck brand I always forget about, that matches most of your criteria: 4wd/awd, room for hauling, etc.

Don't forget to have a look at Subaru's. They fly under the radar, but are a very reliable brand.
