The long and winding road
I know it's not Beatles night, but the two hour monstrosity that is Idol Gives Back is dragging. At least they're actually kicking someone off the show.
Plus, they're not going to George anyone (one of the classless stunts they pull every year).
I'm happy to see so many alums on the show and I could do without all of the other "talent".
So far, the bottom 3 are Aaron, Casey and Tim.
Crystal and Lee were declared safe early on (duh!), then Siobhán was sent to the couches. There was some manufactured drama about whether the third part of the bottom troika was Tim or Mike, but Big Mike's voters have been working overtime since he was brought back by way of the save. I think that will carry him until at least the Top 5.
Based on last night alone, Casey should probably be going home, but I don't think it will be him. My guess is for Aaron, but then again, he could also have picked up all of Katie's voters, which would leave Tim as the guy left standing.
Just for the record, let me remind you that I'm 3 for 3 when calling the bottom 3.
As we wait out the last 13+ minutes of the show, I'd like to brag a little bit about my new computer. It's a beast! Liquid-cooled, 9 GB of RAM, quad-core, SLI-capable glowing-red not-quite positronic madness.
On my laptop, LOTRO looks okay, but now I see things like water and fire and orcs at the edge of the map that I never saw before. If only it could level up my legendary weapons faster, too!
Mrs. High Lord is happy Kate got whacked from DWTS, although we both agree that there are some others we wouldn't have minded seeing eliminated before her. We both think that unless Nicole blows out her ACL or bites the head off a pigeon on stage, she's going to win.
In that way, by Nicole and Crystal are the classes of their respective shows. I was just hoping that things might get competitive, but it looks like both shows probably won't.
It's now 5 after 10 and they haven't kicked anyone off. I'm sure the people at the local Fox affiliate WVAH are steaming. Serves them right for all those years that they pre-empted Idol for meaningless UK basketball games.
Okay, it's 16 minutes after 10 and Idol is about to eliminated one of the guys. After a commercial break, of course.
Seacrest saves Aaron, which I think (hope) means Tim will finally get whacked, with not chance of being saved.
Because they've already run 22 minutes over, Seacrest doesn't draw things out too long, then give Tim the swift kick in the backside. Considering that he's been living on borrowed time, he's had a remarkably strong showing. Certainly better than Nikko Smith. After his good-bye video, he doesn't even get to sing.
Next week, I think it will be Aaron shown the door, then all bets are off.
I'm going to go see if I can get my hunter up to level 62.
High Lord. Out.

I'm thinking Aaron picks up all of Tim's votes and makes it to the final four. Casey may be the next to leave with Mike following him. Fox would get a gender equal final four with Crystal, Lee, Siobhan and Aaron.
I think America may have voted Kate's dress off of DWTS. That was the ugliest gown I have ever seen. She looked like Cinderella's evil twin.
what's up with Idol? 22 minutes over? my dvr stopped at 3 after, so I COMPLETELY missed the end. There's no excuse for that, they should know how long their crap is gonna take and simply let everyone know it would be 2.5 hours and not 2.
If Aaron makes the Top 4, UGH!. But I think CBX showed the rest of the guitar crowd a little old school Idol message this week. Put DOWN the damn crutch, and go out there and actually SING for us for ONCE! If Casey wants to stick around, he especially needs to do a SINGING only performance, no "I'm pretending to sing so I can go a guitar riff in the middle to show off my skillz!". Big Mike I don't really care. Lee should also trying something without the guitar. Perhaps start with 15 seconds of playing, then toss it to his back and do something just singing for the rest, a little Bruce like.
Most interesting development, it looks like CBX wants to win! Other than getting a new hairdo, she's upped the ante while the others except Lee, are stagnant at best.
I think our friend DrillerAA09 is on the right track: Aaron is the big winner in the past two eliminations. I think both Katie and Tim's voters (who aren't so ticked off that they quit watching) will go to Aaron, although a sprinkling will probably also go to Mike and Lee.
Casey is on cruise control and I think he may be sandbagging so he either 1) finish big, or 2) won't win and will be stuck shilling for 19E the rest of his life.
I'm still puzzled by Crystal. A part of me believes that she doesn't really want to win because of what it will do to her creatively (read: destroy her). At the same time, I think she realises that she has already made her bargain with the Dark Lord Mephistopheles so why not go all out and win the thing to get the big prize.
The stated mission of Idol is to find the next great pop star, yet only one person has won and become a bona fide pop star (Kelly). The other great success has been in another genre (Carrie).
I think Crystal might realise that if she is going to be more relevant than David Cook, Taylor, etc. , she's going to have to become a different kind of artist and maybe try to take Idol to the hard/classic rock stations on the radio/satellite dial.
Idol would be smart to back her as an "indie" artist because they haven't had much success of late in the pop genre.
i like Cook, but you are right that other than Kelly, there have not been any Pop successes, and Carrie could do some pop, but obviously she is crushing in Country and Simon was right when he commented she would be the most successful Idol ever (at that time, and it is looking like in the future as well). I'd like to see more of what they did in the first season, to find Pop talent, but the show has turned itself into a monster, so probably couldn't fix it without a complete wipe of the judges on a yearly basis.
As to your hunter and LIs. You're 62 last I recall you mentioning. If you are still using something like a 60 First or Second Age, don't bother worrying about lvling it. A 62 Third Age out DPSs a 60 1A. And the difference on a 65 3A is almost 20 more than a 60 1A. Just start having kinnies send you any 65's they get as drops so you'll have many chances to find one with good legs.
As to leveling them, it's a shame Bounties were gimped so much, but are still a great way to gain quick experience. Also, continue working thru Mirkwood, as you will find many quests which give LI exp and many daily quests once you get all the way thru which will help you rack up ixp.
Once you get to 65, that's when you should worry about maxxing out your LI since you'll get there well before you can max out what you have unless it's awfully close already. But the DPS hit will likely get you killed more than the legs will help if you aren't already using a a 62+ bow. For my hunter, I also scrapped the 60 melee for a 65 3A due to the DPS. finding good legs is a pain, so be patient, and consider what I did for getting more LIs to ID. I send all non Hunter LI's I get to kinnies, often randomly, and say enjoy, and if you happen upon some hunter LIs and would like to send them to me, I won't complain. :) has worked great, as often I have too many LIs in my bags/bank.
You're right about Crystal being in a class by herself. The only way I see her losing is if Stephen Hawking's aliens land on earth! (Which, BTW, I totally believe. I mean, to think the we're the ONLY intelligent life in this vast universe is kind of arrogant if you ask me.)
