Happy Halloween!

It's Halloween and raining here. We only had about 30 kids come by the house looking for candy, so that means that there's lots left over for us. That may or may not turn out to be a good thing since I'm trying to loose weight, but I'm sure going to enjoy the leftovers.

We've also got a Halloween-themed Dancing With the Stars nad I'm not sure if I can stand a whole hour of monster-songs.

First up is Joey with a tango that is being set to the theme of the Addams Family. It's an odd song choice, but the tango is pretty good. Plus Edyta almost popped out of her dress at the end.
The Judges's Scores: 10-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 9

Next up is Mario with a non-monster themed waltz. It's boring, but then again, that's not really Mario or Karina's fault. They're technically good, but just not exciting.
The Judges's Scores: 9-9-10
The High Lord's Score: 8

Third to go is our friend Monique and she's dressed for a Halloween show. The song isn't really appropriate, but her tango is pretty good. She doesn't looke like she's having fun, but that might be the choreography.
The Judges's Scores: 8-8-8
The High Lord's Score: 8

Last up is Emmitt with the foxtrot. Can you believe that Cheryl has her own ballroom floor in her house? The foxtrot was good; they looked like they were having fun and it was a lot better than Mario's boring waltz.
The Judges's Scores: 8-8-9
The High Lord's Score:

Now with the Latin round we have Joey and the paso doble. I like the S&M outfit, but the dance seems a little robotic to me. The singer is bad and I think it (along with the stripper boots) distracted me from paying attention to the actual dance.
The Judges's Scores: 9-8-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

At this point, my brother called, so I had to stop live-blogging.

Anyway, my assessment of this week is that Monique is going to get sent packing tomorrow. I just think she is the odd person out when it comes to a fan base. Most of her fans are about 6 years old and I don't see them voting over and over, whereas I think Emmitt, Joey and Mario have lots of fans who seem to be working overtime to keep them around.

We'll see how this goes tomorrow.

More Dancing With the Stars 3

After last week's non-shocker, all of the celebs are back for more, with last week's votes carrying over to this week. Did anyone actually think someone was going home last week after Sara's abrupt departure? Not I. You know ABC isn't going to miss out on a week's worth of advertising revenue.

I hope my buddy Mike is watching this show because now that Sara's back on the market, he might start cruising again.

First up is Jerry who does a good, if uninspired, foxtrot. I don't know much about ballroom, but it seems that the foxtrot is hard to screw up and Jerry is okay. Again, not great, but not bad either. I think even Sara could have done well with this one.
The Judges's Scores: 8-8-8
The High Lord's Score: 7

Second to go and we have Monique who turns in a pretty good quickstep. She looks relaxed and while her feet aren't as light as they probably should have been and Louis missed the hold at the end (not her fault).
The Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

At the halfway point is Emmitt who is going to waltz for us. I don't think this is his style. He doesn't look bad, but uncomfortable. I'm bored (but it's not really his fault).
The Judges's Scores: 10-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

Next up is Mario who is showing us babies and trying to turn on the charm. He's as good as usual, even if I dislike his smugness. He'll probably get 10s.
The Judges's Scores: 10-9-10
The High Lord's Score: 9

Getting the Pimp Spot is Mr. Clean who does a pretty good foxtrot. I don't think he's going to score as high as Mario, but he was fun and light. I hope this turns him around for this week.
The Judges's Scores: 10-9-10
The High Lord's Score: 9

Beginning the second round is Jerry and his mambo. Kym is doing a lot of shaking and he's just there trying not to break a hip. Latin is not his thing (but at least he knows it). If Jerry isn't sent packing this week, it will be a crime.
The Judges's Scores: 7-8-7
The High Lord's Score: 6

Monique is dancing to "The Reflex" the second best song in the Duran Duran catalog and I'm horrified at the arrangement. Her paso doble is pretty good, but I hope Simon Le Bon is kicking himself for letting Dancing With the Stars use his song.
The Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

Emmitt brings us an entertaing mambo that is clearly better than his waltz. And he's obviously having more fun. And the band isn't covering Duran Duran.
The Judges's Scores: 10-10-9
The High Lord's Score: 9

Was it just our local affiliate or did ABC cut out the intro/fill to Mario's second dance? I really hope he wasn't dressed like the Blues Brothers at the beginning of this dance . . .
The Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

The last dance of the night is Joey with his mambo. He's good; better than Mario's second dance. I don't think he should be in any danger this week.
The Judges's Scores: 9-9-10
The High Lord's Score: 9

Who else wouldn't give a good chunk of someone else's paycheck to hear Joey say "Whoa!" just once on the show?

I think Jerry needs to be eliminated this week. He's the weakest dancer and he knows he's on borrowed time. Monique might also be in danger, but I think Jerry clearly deserves to go, especially since his composite scores from the judges are the lowest.

I also wanted to say that I'm really enjoying the show right after Dancing With the Stars, "Help Me Help You". Ted Danson is the perfect arrogant bastard and the supporting cast is pretty good and dysfunctional, too.

See you tomorrow for the results.

Dancing With the Stars 3

After Sara (who is now available for my friend Mike) left the show, we're down to five dancing partners, but no less filler. I've been working on a lesson until the first dance, so I didn't hear if they were going to eliminate anyone this week, but I did notice that they didn't bring Willa back.

Anyway, there is just as much filler as usual; it was 15 minutes into the show before the competitive dancing started.

Mario is up first and he was pretty good. I still dislike him as a contestant, but he's a good dancer. I don't think he's the leader in the fan voting, but if this were a pure dance competition (and not part popularity contest), he should be the frontrunner.
Judges's scores: 9-9-10
The High Lord's Score: 9

Next up is Monique who, according to Mrs. High Lord, is not sleeping with her dance partner. I like her, but I don't know that she's got a legit shot at winning. She's going to put some hip-hop into her samba and it could either be very good or it could be very bad. She was good, not spectacular, but not bad either.
Judges's scores: 9-7-7
The High Lord's Score: 8

Marking the half-way point is Joey. I really wish he'd grow some hair. In this outfit, he looks like a Hare Krishna (not that there's anything wrong with that; I just don't see them on a ballroom floor). He was pretty good. Not as good as Mario, though.
Judges's scores: 8-8-8
The High Lord's Score: 8

Now it's Emmitt's turn with the jive. His feet look a little heavy, but he's an entertaining guy and that wil help him out. He might be giving 100% effort, but as a dance, I thought it was the roughest of the night (so far).
Judges's scores: 8-8-9
The High Lord's Score: 7

The last celeb is Jerry who is the worst dancer to get this far. I don't know why he's still there. The Jerry Fan Club must be working overtime to keep him around (or maybe it's the Vote For the Worst crowd). At least he's having fun. But gawd is he awful. The guitar smashing was pretty funny. Are they going to elminate anyone this week? They should get rid of Jerry just so we're not subjected to this crap any more.
Judges's scores: 7-6-5
The High Lord's Score: 5

Jerry is clearly the worst dancer left. I think the other four are pretty much Mario and everyone else when it comes to dancing, but the fan votes are keeping Emmitt right in the thick of it.

I'm debating on whether I want to stick around for the Sara Evans "exclusive". Do I really care? Not really. She didn't have a shot at winning so maybe it's best that she's gone now. I'm also going to stop the blog before the group dance since it really doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

We'll see tomorrow if they cut the show short a week and eliminate someone tomorrow.

Dancing With the Stars 3

I know I haven't been a faithful blogger lately, but since I have a relatively quiet night, I'm going to live-blog Dancing With the Stars.

I've been watching the show, I just haven't been very good at writing my opinions down.

We see all the girls wearing next to nothing (not necessarily a bad thing), except Sara who is uncharacteristically covered-up. Even Carrie Ann might fall out of her dress.

I really hate all the filler. It's almost as bad as American Idol. Going first is Joey who I don't think does the shaved look well. He's a good dancer but I think his samba looks a little robotic.
Judges's Scores: 8-8-9
The High Lord's Score: 8

Next up is Willa who is trying to climb back on to the face of the earth. She's doing the rumba, although she's dressed more for a belly dance. At least she looks like she's having fun. I'm not blown away, but I thought she was better than Joey.
Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 7½

Going third is Sarah who is not a very good dancer. She could be good, but has always looked scared when she's dancing. She's smiling this week and that helps her. While not the worst of the celeb dancers (Tucker), she's not the most entertaining, either and I think it's a tribute to the country music fans who are apparently voting for her in droves and keeping her in the competition.
Judges's Score: 8-8-8
The High Lord's Score: 7½

Batting clean-up is I Was Married to Ali Landry But Couldn't Keep It In My Pants. He's a good dancer, but I really don't care for him (personally). Mrs. High Lord says Mario and Karina are sleeping together (she says the same thing about Willa and Maksim). Mario's good and I'd say he is probably the front runner to win, as far as the judges go, especially now that he's apparently gotten past his [Judas Priest voice=on]"Breaking the law . . . Breaking the law[/Judas Priest voice] phase.
Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 8½

Jerry is next. He's easily the worst of the remaining contestants, but at least he's trying to have fun. That's what I love about Jerry; never takes himself too seriously. Kym is dressed like a Carnival showgirl in an obvious ploy to keep people from looking at Jerry. He's actually pretty good. After the waltz from last week, Jerry's on borrowed time. I think he'll last at least one more week.
Judges's Scores: 8-8-8
The High Lord's Score: 7

Going into the home stretch is Monique, who my wife says is not sleeping with Louis. She's good, but not spectacular. I think she will be left standing when the music stops because I don't see that she has the kind of rabid fan base that Emmit, Jerry and Sara enjoy and she's not a really good dancer like Mario and Joey. Of course, Willa could also be the one who gets whacked this week . . .
Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 7½

Batting clean up is Emmitt who is a better dancer at this stage than Jerry was. I wonder if going last helps people in this competition since you cna start voting at the beginning of the show and each phone line/email address only gets seven votes each. For an "old" guy, Emmitt does well. It helps that he has the ultra-competitive Cheryl as his dance partner because she won't let up and won't let him just skate by and be happy to be there.
Judges's Scores: 9-9-9
The High Lord's Score: 9

I think there has been some score inflation, but there is no doubt that Sara and Jerry are the weakest contestants. Still, because of the way the votes are weighted, I can see either Monique or Willa going home this week.

We'll find out tomorrow night.
